The University of Illinois Extension in Marshall-Putnam is encouraging young people to get their green thumbs working. In partnership with local 4-H and Master Gardeners, they are offering a Special Interest club focusing on the basics of gardening for vegetables, herbs, and flowers. The club, open to anyone between the ages of 8 and 18, will be meeting at the Extension office on Front Street in Henry, with sessions taking place 1-2 times per month, varying with weather and monthly tasks. Participants have the opportunity to learn about seed starting, soil health, disease prevention, and even floral design. Produce grown may be donated to local food pantries and the Blessing Boxes-Little Food Pantry.
