This morning, Tuesday, January 24th, at approximately 5:53 a.m., the Dixon Police Department received a telephone call from a concerned parent regarding a conversation that was overheard while on a school bus the prior day.

The concerned parent indicated a student had stated that they were told by another student to “Hurt someone or I’m going to hurt you.” We were informed that this student, the one threatened, attends Madison Elementary School, 618 Division Street.

With any comment(s) or threat, the safety and security of our students and staff is our utmost priority and we take any threats with the utmost seriousness. Out of an abundance of caution, several Dixon Police Department marked squad vehicles and officers were present at Madison Elementary and Reagan Middle School as the students and staff returned to school this morning. Officers were also present at several bus stops as well.

The Dixon Police Department along with the Dixon Public Schools Administration have been and will continue to investigate this information that was obtained this morning.

At approximately 7:00 a.m., officers were in contact with the student that was threatened to commit the violence and their parents as well. At this time, we don’t believe there is any threat to the students and staff at Madison Elementary/Reagan Middle School, but while erring on the side of caution, the department will have extra personnel conducting directed patrols at the school throughout the day. At this time, the second student has not been identified.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Dixon Police Department at (815) 288-4411.
