Search Leads to Weapon Recovery at Dixon High School

On Monday, April 24th, at approximately 12:11 p.m., the Dixon High School Administration contacted the Dixon Police Department regarding a student in possession of a firearm. Dixon officers met with the school administration and were apprised of the administration’s initial investigation. The school administration was informed that a Dixon High School student was in possession of a firearm.

The information that was obtained was that the firearm was currently in the student’s vehicle, which was currently parked on school property.

The school administration contacted the student while on school property and questioned the individual regarding the information that they had received. At one point, the school administration conducted a search of the student’s vehicle and located a loaded firearm, a 45-caliber handgun. Officers were present while the school administration conducted the search and took possession of the firearm.

Due to the investigation the following individual was arrested and charged: A male juvenile, age 16, of Dixon, Illinois, Unlawful Use of Weapons, a Class 3 Felony and Unauthorized Possession of Weapons, a Class A Misdemeanor. The juvenile was processed and released to their parent.

The charges are merely an allegation and all parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
