On Monday, December 19th, at 7:40pm, Whiteside County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a single vehicle crash on Prophet Road, near the I-88 overpass in rural Rock Falls. Preliminary investigation indicated, for unknown reasons, the vehicle’s right side tires went on to the shoulder of the roadway. The driver over corrected and lost control of the vehicle causing it to roll over and off the road and down a hill, with the driver being ejected.
EMS personnel arrived and transported the driver to CGH, Sterling. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful and the driver, Arthur J. Norton, age 74 of Tampico, was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The Deputies were assisted on scene by Rock Falls Fire Department, CGH Ambulance, and Slim-N-Hanks Towing.
