The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help locating a suspect with a warrant that fled from a traffic stop where a Deputy suffered minor injuries. On December 1, 2023, around 11:50 PM, a Deputy made a traffic stop on Illinois Highway 78, south of Annawan. During the traffic stop, the Deputy learned that an occupant in the vehicle had a nationwide arrest warrant. While the Deputy attempted to detain the suspect, the vehicle fled the scene causing minor injuries to the Deputy. The Deputy pursued the vehicle due to the driver’s apparent disregard to the safety of the public.
The suspect vehicle continued to drive recklessly into Kewanee City limits until they collided with another vehicle close to the intersection of Division and Tenney Streets. The suspect fled on foot before law enforcement arrived at the accident scene. The Kewanee Fire Department transported the occupants of both vehicles to OSF Saint Luke Medical Center for treatment.
As of 7:30 PM December 2nd, The Henry County Sheriff’s Office said in a comment on their Facebook post that the suspect has not been apprehended and there is no immediate danger to the public.
A nationwide arrest warrant is a warrant that can be executed by law enforcement across all State’s within the United States.
The Kewanee Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies assisted the incident. This incident is under investigation and no additional information is available at this time.
